⚙️ Advanced Features Guide
Unlock powerful features for advanced budgeting. Multi-currency support, custom rates, events, and more.
Multi-Currency Support
Manage budgets in multiple currencies with automatic conversion:
Features:
- Primary currency: Set for each virtual card
- Secondary currency: View all amounts in another currency
- Real-time rates: Automatic exchange rate updates
- Custom rates: Override with your own rates
Custom Exchange Rates
Set your own exchange rates for historical data or projections:
Use cases:
- Historical analysis with past rates
- Future planning with projected rates
- Fixed rate contracts
Events
Some spending does not belong to a month - it belongs to a thing that happened. Events let you total that thing up wherever the transactions landed.
- Create an event on the Events page with a name, description, budget and a start and end date
- Attach a transaction to it from the "Select event" field when you log or edit it
- The event card shows its budget and how many transactions are attached
- The Expenses & events tab of the Report page totals spending per event
Events cut across periods and virtual cards, so a two-week trip that straddles a period boundary still adds up as one number.
AI Categorization & Assistant
Hooldbudget can use Google Gemini to sort transactions into your groups for you. It runs on your own API key, which you add under Settings → AI.
- Paste your Gemini API key and test the connection
- Turn on auto-categorization to have new transactions suggested into groups
- Suggestions appear as a badge - you stay in control of accepting them
- The AI assistant panel answers questions about your own budget data
Without a key, everything else in the app works exactly as before - the AI features simply stay off.
Duplicate Detection
Logging the same coffee twice is easy to do, especially when you import and hand-log the same week. Hooldbudget looks for transactions that suspiciously resemble each other and flags them, so you can merge or delete rather than quietly double-count.
Import & Export Transactions
Under Tools you can bring transactions in from your bank, or take your data back out.
Import:
- Pick the bank under "Import from" and upload its CSV export
- Imported rows land in Under import first - nothing touches your budget yet
- If AI categorization is on, each row gets a suggested group while you review
- Accept rows into a group one by one, or select several and apply the suggestions in a batch
- Discard whatever you do not want to keep
Only the bank formats listed in "Import from" are supported - there is no free-form column mapping.
Export:
- Choose a start and end date
- Pick Excel or CSV
- Analyze in a spreadsheet, or keep it as a backup of your data
Balance Sync
When your tracked balance drifts from what the bank actually says, the Sync button on the dashboard writes a correcting entry so the two line up again.
💡 Tip: A drift usually means something went unlogged. It is worth a quick look before syncing it away - the Planning page will normally show which group is short.
